Acibadem City Clinic Varna’s Laboratory has begun performing the quick test for antibodies against COVID-19. The screening test is an aid in diagnosing a previous infection caused by the new coronavirus. The test is a blood sample, it simultaneously detects and differentiates IgG and IgM antibodies and gives a result within 15 -20 minutes.

"COVID-19 IgM and IgG antibodies are formed after the seventh and fourteenth days, respectively, from the onset of the first symptoms of the disease. In case of suspicion of a coronavirus infection, this test could be used for confirmation in retrospect, "said Dr. M. Todorova, head of the Clinical Laboratory of the medical center.

Coronaviruses are enveloped RNA viruses that are widespread among humans, mammals and birds. They cause respiratory, enteric, liver and neurological diseases. There are six known species that cause the disease in humans - four of which appear with symptoms of the common cold, and the other two strains - severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV) and respiratory syndrome from the Middle East (MERS-CoV) - have a zoonotic origin and sometimes they can lead to a fatal disease.
In January 2020, a new type of coronavirus, known as COVID-19, was identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.

The rapid test for IgM and IgG antibodies to coronavirus COVID-19 is a laboratory method that shows whether the disease has occurred and how long ago.

In Acibadem City Clinic Varna, the test is performed without an appointment.
