DR. ASEN KELCHEV IS THE NEW HEAD OF THE CARDIAC SURGERY DEPT. AT ACIBADEM CITY CLINIC CARDIOVASCULAR CENTER

Over the past 11 years, the young cardiac surgeon has been actively involved in multidisciplinary teams that have carried out a variety of surgeries

Dr. Assen Kelchev is the new Head of the Cardiac Surgery Dept. at Acibadem City Clinic Cardiovascular Center. Dr. Kelchev is a graduate of the Medical University of Sofia in medicine, with honors, in 2004. He has two specialties – cardiac surgery and vascular surgery, as well as a Master's degree in Health Management. In the period 2004-2007, he worked as an intern at the Cardiac Surgery Clinic at St. Ekaterina General Hospital – Sofia. For the last 11 years, Dr. Kelchev has been a part of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Acibadem City Clinic Tokuda Hospital, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Nikolov. He participates (together with thoracic and vascular surgeons) in multidisciplinary teams in performing surgical interventions, related to the reconstruction of superior and inferior vena cava, the tracheobronchial tree, the pulmonary circulation and the chest wall.

Dr. Asen Kelchev has participated in a number of events and trainings abroad: in Switzerland, Spain, France, Austria, Germany, Belgium and the USA. He has specializations in plastic reconstructions of the aortic valve in Brussels; alternative methods of myocardial revascularization in Essen, Germany; surgical treatment of aortic diseases in New York; minimally invasive cardiac surgery in Washington; surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation in Vienna.
