Proper prevention and changes in one’s lifestyle may delay cardiovascular complications

Dr. Veneta Gencheva, a post-graduate student at the Diagnostic Imaging Department of Acibadem City Clinic Cardiac Surgery Center in Burgas, participated in the 4th Public Session, entitled “Motor Activity – a Prerequisite for Good Health”. The event is an initiative of the Diabetes Care Association Burgas, aiming to raise awareness of diabetes and promote its prevention. The Dr. Gencheva’s presentation triggered the interest of all attendees.

“About half a million Bulgarians suffer from diabetes and its inadequate control may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure, amputation and premature death,” said Dr. Gencheva at the beginning of the meeting. Furthermore, medical specialists formulated basic recommendations for diabetics. Proper control and follow-up with a cardiologist need to be combined with maintaining healthy weight and physical activity.

This is a joint initiative of the Diabetes Care Association Burgas and Acibadem City Clinic Cardiac Surgery Center, hosting an educational campaign for the prevention and proper treatment of diabetes. This is yet another activity of socially responsible behavior and wish for a cooperation between the specialized hospital and NGOs in the name of good heart health in Bulgaria.
